POP-UP SPACES AND PLACESBranded culture clubs to know

While branded pop-up boutiques and venues are nothing new, it's the markedly distinct offerings and atmospheres that keep such conceptualized venues feeling fresh and, in many cases, still cutting edge. Here are some pop-ups of the season that seem to be doing it right:

MINI Space: Movers and shakers privy to New York Fashion Week festivities last month were likely aware of the MINI Rooftop, an urban oasis erected on a Hell's Kitchen roof that served as homebase for cultural events, workshops, parties, and early morning yoga and pilates classes. The concept around MINI's "Creative Use of Space" initiative was inspired by ideologies held dear by the MINI Cooper's original inventor back in 1959, and while the above-mentioned MINI rooftop event in NYC has come to an end, the movement - focusing on the reclamation of urban spaces and aggregation of creativity and innovation - lives on. Interested consumers can join the online forum and community, enter design competitions, and sign up to be included in future global events and initiatives.

Every now and again you stumble upon an invention and go - "I wish I had thought of that how brilliant". Well those were my words today when I read about this simple little invention - the Zipholder. I realised the potential of this simple little gadget immediately - it would mean that I could again safely wear my lovely pair of linen trousers and my favourite jeans whose zippers were forever falling down. Yes well worth the investment of Euro -5.20.

Very thought provoking article GEO tagging.

There’s something big happening in the mapping space. All the indicators are there – significant M&A activity, a dramatic rise in the number of GPS enabled devices and exponential growth in geotagged content. Don’t be fooled. This is not Geography 2.0. Its something much more interesting. Read more

Jean Paul Gaultier Creative Director for Hermes has recently collaborated with Evian to develop their much awaited new Christmas look. The result is so beautiful and simple, I hope they keep it as their ongoing packaging. Water dressed as Champagne...loving it.

Little Black Dress Pop-Up Co-Op:
LA-based Little Black Dress, an organization that raises charitable funds through fashion-themed events, launched a 6100 sq. foot, pop-up co-op and event space in West Hollywood for the month of October. In addition to weekly art and fashion themed events, the LBD space serves as the temporary retail home for a handful of both up-and-coming and established designers and brands (e.g., Vivienne Westwood, Smoke & Mirrors, LaROK, Mimobot, Threadless Select), sponsored by handpicked LA-based fashion retailers. The event, from which proceeds will go towards local non-profit organizations including Dress for Success, The Saban Free Clinic, and Junior League, is poised to go global, with future LBD pop-ups scheduled for Chicago and Bangkok, Thailand in 2009.

Thanks to Apple and its superior design, marketing, advertising and, well, anything else to do with creating and selling a product, most other global communications brands have languished in a kind of brand-image purgatory. Sony is fighting back with this great campaign created by Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney, helmed by art director Eron Broughton. The agency took Sony's earphones and literally mapped out the New York subway system, mimicking a traditional subway map. It's a simple idea but powerful in its execution, giving Sony a much-need dose of coolness. At last, other brands are thinking outside of the square. Now all Sony needs to do is apply that principle to its actual products. Innovate or die, guys. - Laura Demasi Thanks Coolhunter

Dita Von Teese - certainly made this Wonderbra campaign come to life. The shots really make the product come to life.
